                           TICK/LYME TESING INFO CLICK ON "HEALTH LINKS"

LYME/Ticks-IF the tick is not ENGORGED for >36 hours (attachment is NOT engorgement) it cannot transmit infection to your child.  It is a bug bite and will be red for 72 hours.

IF the tick is ENGORGED and on for >36 hours AND if your child is LESS than 8 years old there is NO prophylaxis and treatment can only be started AFTER seeing a doctor.  Please call during business hours (M-F, 8am-4pm) or go the GOLISANO AFTER HOURS at Community Hospital (5pm-10pm M-F, 12pm-10pm Sat/Sun). MEDICINE will NOT be called in over the phone.

IF the tick is ENGORGED and on for >36 hours AND your child is 8 years old or older, a ONE-TIME prophylactic dose can be started within 72 hours of the tick removal.  IT IS NOT an emergency.  Please call during business hours (M-F, 8am-4pm) or go to GOLISANO AFTER HOURS at Community Hospital (5pm-10pm M-F, 12pm-10pm Sat/Sun).  MEDICINE will NOT be called in over the phone EXCEPT during normal business hours.

ANY rashes or other symptoms must be seen by a doctor; medicine will not be called in over the phone.
